NAMI Boulder County evolved from an organization called Families and Friends of the Adult Mentally Ill (FFAMI), which was founded in Boulder in 1977 by Mary Jean Willis. FFAMI members attended the founding convention for NAMI National in 1979. At the time there were about 250 support groups for families of persons with mental illness that had sprung up spontaneously around the U.S. Today, NAMI National members number more than 220,000 in all 50 states, with 1200 state and local affiliates. NAMI is a truly grassroots-inspired organization, and Boulder NAMI was an integral part of its founding.

NAMI Boulder County members are families, friends and individuals coping with serious mental illness. NAMI Boulder County members are available when you most need a helping hand through the struggles and challenges of mental illness. NAMI is there with acceptance, understanding, information and emotional support.
